CORE COMPETENCIES FOR HEALING ARTS PRACTITIONERS

This course is grounded in the belief that who you are as a practitioner matters just as much, if not more, than the tools you use. At the heart of this approach is the work of psychologist Carl Rogers, who identified three core conditions that support healing and transformation in any relational space: congruence, unconditional positive regard, and empathy.
These aren’t techniques or checklists, they’re qualities of presence that shape the depth and safety of the space you hold. Congruence is your ability to be real and aligned in yourself. Unconditional positive regard is your capacity to meet the client without judgment or agenda. And empathy is your willingness to enter their world with care and insight, seeing things from their perspective. Together, these conditions form the foundation of ethical, human-centered practice.
The competencies explored in this course grow from those roots. You’ll delve into each one not just conceptually, but practically, learning what it looks like in real sessions, how it feels when it’s missing, and how to strengthen it over time. These are the quiet skills that often go unspoken in practitioner spaces, but they make all the difference between simply offering a service and holding a space that truly supports growth.
Each lesson includes a teaching video, a short written reflection, and a downloadable workbook with prompts to help you integrate what you’re learning into your own practice. You don’t need to be perfect to hold space well. But you do need to be present, aware, and committed to your own development. That’s the work of this course, not just becoming more skilled, but becoming more real.
